About Vialis Travel

WEST AFRICAN HERITAGE TOUR OPERATOR

GHANA-BASED, HERITAGE-LED

Vialis Travel is a West African travel agency that designs heritage-focused journeys through Ghana, Benin, and Togo, centered on the slave-trade memorial sites of Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, and the Door of No Return.

The name Vialis is taken from the Latin word for “path” or “road.” It reflects the work we do: guiding visitors along the routes that shaped West Africa, from the dungeons of Cape Coast Castle to the Akan kingdoms of Kumasi, the voodoo coast of Ouidah and Ganvie, and the Tata Somba clay fortresses of Koutammakou. Our team is based in Ghana. Every itinerary is led by local guides who know these places, the people, and the languages: English, Twi, Akan, Ewe, and French.

Every Vialis journey is built around what is actually here. Real places, real history, real communities.

We host small groups, families, solo travelers, and diaspora pilgrims looking for an honest, well-organized way to walk the heritage trail of Ghana and the Voodoo Coast.

What sets us apart

01

Heritage at the center

Vialis trips are organized around the heritage sites that matter: Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, the Door of No Return, the Assin Manso Slave River memorial, the Salaga slave market, and the Pikworo slave camp at Paga. We treat these places with the seriousness they deserve and pair them with the wider story of the Akan kingdoms, the Asante court at Kumasi, and the Pan-African legacy of Accra. Heritage is not a side stop on our itineraries; it is the spine.

02

Where we operate

Our work began in Ghana and grew into a three-country circuit: Ghana from Accra to Mole National Park, Benin from Cotonou through Ouidah to the stilt city of Ganvie and the royal palaces of Abomey, and Togo from Lome up to the Tata Somba lands of Koutammakou. Our local partners in each country mean you travel with people who live there, not visitors passing through.

03

How we work

Small groups so the experience stays personal. English-speaking guides on every trip, with French and local-language fluency where it counts. Vetted hotels and lodges, well-maintained vehicles, on-the-ground support seven days a week. Our trip designers build itineraries with you, not at you, and we keep group sizes capped so guides can give every traveler real attention at the sites. We work directly with Ghanaian communities, museums, and traditional authorities so the people on the ground are paid fairly and the stories told at the castles, palaces, and shrines are told accurately.

04

Who travels with us

Diaspora travelers retracing ancestral routes through the Year of Return and Sankofa journeys. History readers and educators visiting Cape Coast and Elmina. Photographers and writers drawn to the voodoo ceremonies of Ouidah and the Benin Voodoo Festival each January. Families looking for a meaningful first trip to West Africa. Solo travelers who want a structured, safe way to see the region without losing the freedom to explore. Whatever brings you to the region, our role is the same: get the logistics out of your way so the places can do their work.
