Why Kenya, and why now
The great plains, and the coast behind them
Kenya is our second route in East Africa, and it follows naturally from Zanzibar. Most people meet this country through the wildlife, and the wildlife earns it: the elephant families of Amboseli walking out under Kilimanjaro, and the wildebeest crossings of the Maasai Mara, which is the single most concentrated wildlife spectacle left on the continent. What tends to get left out of the brochure is everything around it. Kenya is Maasai and Samburu and Swahili and Kikuyu, it is the Rift Valley where some of the oldest human remains on earth were found, and it is a coastline that traded with Arabia, India and China for a thousand years before Europe arrived.
The route we are building runs from Nairobi down to Amboseli and across to the Mara, then east to the old Swahili towns and the reefs of the coast. Like our West African journeys, the Kenya programme is built with local guides, kept to small groups, and given enough time to do things properly: sunrise game drives rather than a checklist, a proper stay with Maasai hosts rather than a staged photo stop, and evenings that are not spent in a minibus. Departures open in 2026, and the coast pairs naturally with our Zanzibar route for travellers who want the whole Swahili coast in one journey.

Nairobi and the Swahili coast
The museums and music of Nairobi at the start, and at the other end the coral-stone lanes of the old coast towns, the dhow harbours, and the reefs of the Indian Ocean.
